BD emerges as top tourist source to India in January

Bangladesh has come out as the top source of foreign tourists to India in January.

The country contributed 16.4 per cent of India’s foreign tourists for the month, followed by USA with 14.1 per cent and UK with 10.8 per cent, reports ultra.news.

Delhi International Airport accounted for the highest number of foreign tourist entries into India, with 28 per cent of all foreign tourists choosing to come to India via the national capital.

Delhi was followed by Mumbai with 17.5 per cent.

The high number of people coming from Bangladesh on tourist visas also meant that the third preferred entry point for foreign tourists to India was the Haridaspur land check post on the India-Bangladesh border.

The check post account for 7.63 per cent, edging out Chennai Airport with its 7.17 per cent figure to take the third place.

The total number of foreign tourists who arrived in India in January showed an increase of 8.4 per cent compared to the same month last year. Last year, the numbers had shown an increase of 16.4 per cent.

Besides UK, US and Bangladesh, countries such as Canada (4.63 per cent), Russia (4.49 per cent), Australia (3.60 per cent), France (2.76 per cent) and Germany (2.64 per cent) also contributed tourists to India last month.

Among Asian countries contributing tourists to India were Malaysia (2.63 per cent), Sri Lanka (2.59 per cent), China (2.27 per cent), Japan (2.08 per cent), Republic of Korea (1.93 per cent), Afghanistan (1.86 per cent) and Nepal (1.59 per cent).
