BASIS to launch campaign in EU, UK tomorrow

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) is going to organise a week-long promotional events in three European countries - Austria, Hungary, Slovakia - and the United Kingdom from tomorrow (Thursday) to showcase products and woo new clients.

In collaboration with the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Bangladesh and respective Bangladesh missions, the campaign from June 30 to July 06 is expected to highlight the export potentials of the country's ICT products.

The BASIS delegation would meet around 350 companies during its visit to Europe, BASIS leaders said at a press conference at its office in the city on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed said the association has been working for a long to increase the exports of the ICT products on a priority basis.

The export earnings reached US$ 1.4 billion this year, leaving us with no alternative to branding and continuous promotion for increasing it to US$ 5.0 billion, he added. With this goal of branding, harnessing ICT export opportunities in the international market and highlighting our successes, he said: "This time we are directly participating in four major events in the European market."

Samira Zuberi Himika, Senior Vice President of BASIS, said: "Our member companies are doing business successfully not only in the UK or Europe, but also in other markets around the world."

With this success in mind, she said BASIS is working on how to expand the presence of our IT sector in all markets.

AKM Ahmedul Islam BABU, Director of BASIS said the association is working hard to implement the goals set by the government and BASIS.

According to various international surveys, different countries of the world, including Japan, are giving priority to Bangladesh in terms of partnership in ICT, he added.

The BASIS delegation will visit Austria and Slovakia on June 30, Hungary July 01 and the UK July 02-06 as part of this year's campaign.
