Bangladesh ranks 10th on first time online users list

Bangladesh is one of the top 10 economies by the number of people that went online for the first time between 2012 and 2015.

The Information Economy Report 2017, prepared and released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), unveiled the scenario.

It showed that between 2012 and 2015 some 15 million people went online for the first time in Bangladesh.

India got the highest number of new online entrants during the period under the review.

Some 178 million Indian went online for the first time between 2012 and 2015 followed by 122 million in China and 32 million in Nigeria.

Though Bangladesh ranked last on the top-10 list, it registered the highest ratio on the number of people that went online for the first time.

The report showed that 67 per cent of the total online users in Bangladesh went online for the first time between 2012 and 2015.
