Assam keen to introduce airlink with Bangladesh

Assam has shown keen interest in enhancing connectivity with Bangladesh especially in the air link.

It hoped that both sides would be able to utilise their development potentials from this.

The air link issue got priority as Assamese governor Jagdish Mukhi and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday separately paid a courtesy call on visiting Bangladesh President M Abdul Hamid at Vivanta by Taj in the northeastern state of India.

During the meeting, President Hamid, now on a four-day state visit in Assam to join the Solar Summit, Bangladesh values the bilateral relations with neighbouring country and hopes to conduct this project.

Assamese governor Jagdish and chief minister Sarbananda also congratulated Hamid for being elected president of Bangladesh for the second consecutive time and hoped that the existing bilateral relations would reach a new height in the days to come.

They also called for utilising development potentials in many sectors mainly the tourism one for serving a common interest.

Secretaries concerned and high civil and military officials were also present in the meetings.
