Apparel air shipment to the European Union (EU) from Bangladesh jumped by 35 per cent in the past year.
In 2017, some 88 million kg of apparel products were shipped to the EU by air while the volume was 65 million kg in 2016.
An analysis on air cargo and Bangladesh’s export, prepared by the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI), unveiled the statistics. The analysis appeared in the Policy Insights, a new quarterly publication of the think-tank.
It said that additional cost of using airfreight to export to EU would be approximately $19 million or above.
The PRI in its analysis also estimated that the apparel shipment to EU by air made up around 95 per cent of the country’s total air cargo freight to the EU and around 8.6 per cent of the total exports to the EU.
