Cement production cost may rise by 10 per cent if the proposed advanced tax (AT) is implemented, manufacturers say.

The observation came at a post-budget press conference organised by the Bangladesh Cement Manufacturers Association (BCMA), held at its office in Dhaka city on Monday.

The budget for the fiscal year 2019-20 has proposed 5.0 per cent AT on import of all raw materials and additives of cement.

BCMA president Md Alamgir Kabir presented the keynote address.

First vice president of BCMA Md Shahidullah, executive director of the organisation Bellal Hussain Molla, among others, also spoke at the event.
