Some 94,740 new motorcycles were registered with Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in the first quarter (Q1) of the current year.

Around one-fourth of the newly registered motorbikes were based in Dhaka.

BRTA data showed that during the first quarter of the current year, the number of newly registered motorcycles stood at 23,507 in the capital.

On average, it showed, 64 motorcycles are pressed into service on Dhaka roads daily while the rate is 259 across the country.

Despite being a good alternative to the public transport for many people, it often comes in the news for accidents. Reckless driving is attributed to most accidents involving the two-wheeler.

Last year, some 325,599 motorcycles got fresh registration across the country.
