400 underprivileged women complete Citi UCEP technical edn programme

Citibank, N.A., Bangladesh and Underprivileged Children’s Educational Program (UCEP) organised Certificate Awarding Ceremony on Sunday for the underprivileged young women who graduated under the “Citi UCEP Technical Education Program”.

Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hassan, former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank and head of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit attended the programme as the chief guest at UCEP Head Office in the city.

Rubana Huq, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) was present as the special guest. 

Citi Country Officer N. Rajashekaran, UCEP Bangladesh Chairman Parveen Mahmud, UCEP Executive Director Tahsinah Ahmed and officials from both organisations and students were present at the programme among others.

“Development of women workforce is important to achieve economic progress of the country,” said Razee Hassan.

“I believe this joint effort towards women empowerment and youth employability will create future leaders across industrial skill sets which are timely and in high demand,” he added.

Rubana Huq said, “The challenge to include women from underprivileged background and to train them through proving skills that are meaningful and timely is just what we need at this moment of time. I congratulate the girls and wish them continued success”. 

In his speech, N. Rajashekaran said, “Citi Foundation is focused on preparing today’s young people to be the most employable generation yet.

The Citi Foundation, philanthropic arm of Citigroup, has been implementing the Citi UCEP Technical Education project since 2014 in partnership with UCEP.

More than 1,200 underprivileged young women between 17 to 25 years of age received skills training under this programme.

The programme was implemented in UCEP’s Dhaka, Gazipur, Jatrabari and Chattogram technical schools.
