The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has set a target to ensure 100 per cent electrification of 21 districts and 52 upazilas by June 2020.

As part of rolling out electrification in off-grid areas, it has already achieved 100 per cent electrification of 40 districts and 410 upazilas across the country.

"We (BREB) will ensure 100 per cent electrification in off-grid areas by December 2020. This is our challenge," BREB chairman Maj Gen (Retd.) Moin Uddin said at its general managers conference held on February 15-16 at its conference room.

The BREB will observe 'Rural Electrification Service Year' as part of its celebrations marking the 'Mujib Year', he added.

He also called on the BREB officials to provide services to the clients with utmost sincerity and dedication so that no clients face any harassment.

The number of BREB clients is now over 28 million.

Meanwhile, the power division has nominated BREB for the 'Independence Award' in recognition of its contribution to the rural development sector.
