Ten cos account for 32pc of weekly transactions

Ten most-traded stocks accounted for nearly 32 per cent of weekly transactions on the Dhaka bourse in the outgoing week, with Bangladesh Export Import Company (Beximco) making its way to the top of the turnover list.

Market operators said investors showed their buying appetite for Beximco shares after the company reported an impressive earnings growth for the last quarter.

According to data available with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), about 16.85 million Beximco's shares were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 2.50 billion, which was 6.16 per cent of the week's total turnover.

The company's share price also rose 1.29 per cent in the week to close at Tk 148.90 on Thursday, the last trading day of the week.

The news of a jump in Beximco's earnings in nine months for July 2021 to March 2022 led to the buoyancy in the market. Beximco has reported an impressive profit growth published on Thursday.

Beximco's EPS soared more than 206 per cent year on year to Tk 13.18 in nine months for July 2021 to March 2022.

JMI Hospital Requisite Manufacturing came second on the weekly turnover list, with shares worth Tk 1.61 billion changing hands. The company's share price rose 5.91 per cent to close at Tk 78.90 each on Thursday.

IPDC Finance clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 1.60 billion changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 56.90, gaining 7.56 per cent.

Orion Pharma emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 1.36 billion changing hands. The company's share price gained 0.70 per cent to close at Tk 100.50 each on Thursday.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 1.27 billion changing hands. The state-run corporation's share closed at Tk 123.10, gaining 4.41 per cent.

Sonali Paper & Board Mills featured a turnover of Tk 1.26 million. The company's share price rose 3.55 per cent to close at Tk 898.20 each on Thursday.

The turnover of Unique Hotel & Resorts was Tk 1.09 billion. The company's share price jumped 19.49 per cent to close at Tk 70.50 each. It was also the week's top gainer.

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh featured a turnover of Tk 782 million. The cement maker's share closed at Tk 78.60 each, gaining 0.77 per cent.
