Tokyo stocks ended lower Wednesday after the market inherited a weak lead from Wall Street overnight, with some investors opting to take profits before the release of key US economic data due out later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 74.56 points, or 0.35 per cent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,129.72.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 7.10 points, or 0.45 per cent, to finish at 1,554.22, reports Xinhua.

Miscellaneous product, real estate and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
