Asian share prices were mixed Monday after Wall Street extended its slide, fueling concern about the global market outlook.
The Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.1 per cent to 2,570.17 while Tokyo's Nikkei 225 gained 0.5 per cent to 21,293.11. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.25 per cent to 24,780.02.
Sydney's S&P-ASX 200 advanced 1 per cent to 5,724.30. Seoul's Kospi was little-changed at 2,027.52. Benchmarks in New Zealand, Taiwan and Southeast Asia advanced, reports AP.
US stocks extended its slide. The S&P 500 index slid 1.7 per cent to 2,658.69. The Dow Jones industrial average lost 1.2 per cent to 24,688.31. The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite shed 2.1 per cent to 7,167.21.
Benchmark US crude gained 6 cents to $67.65 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose 26 cents on Friday to close at $67.59.
Brent crude, used to price international oils, lost 2 cents to $77.60 per barrel in London. It gained 73 cents the previous session to $77.62.
The dollar edged down to 111.87 yen from Friday's 111.89 yen. The euro declined to $1.1397 from $1.1403.
