United Power tops turnover, gainer charts on prime bourse

Ten companies account for 24pc turnover on DSE

Ten most traded companies accounted for more than 24 per cent transactions on the prime bourse on Monday, while United Power generated the highest turnover.

The power generation and distribution company also topped the day's gainer chart, soaring 7.20 per cent over the previous day to close at Tk 284.20 each.

Market analysts said despite the market closed lower, a section of investors showed their appetite on United Power shares as its share price fell substantially in the past few weeks.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) data, some 463,197 shares of United Power were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 128 million, which was 3.65 per cent of the day's total turnover of Tk 3.50 million.

The company has recommended 130 per cent cash dividend and 10 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2019.

The company has also reported consolidated EPS of Tk 16.08, consolidated NAV per share of Tk 62.80 and consolidated NOCFPS of Tk 16.14 for the year ended on June 30, 2019 as against solo EPS of Tk 9.59, solo NAV of Tk 34 and solo NOCFPS of Tk 9.0 respectively for the same period of the previous year.

The United Power, which was listed on the DSE in 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend in 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 4.79 billion and authorised capital is Tk 8.0 billion while total number of securities is 479.08 million.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while the institutional investors own 6.78 per cent, foreigners 0.06 per cent and the general public 3.16 per cent as of September 30, 2019, the DSE data showed.

National Tubes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 120 million changing hands. The company's share price plunged 6.27 per cent to close at Tk 177.90 each.

Premier Bank clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 110 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 12 each, gaining 2.56 per cent.

Wata Chemicals emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 89 million changing hands. The company's share price slumped 6.98 per cent to close at Tk 595.70 each.

Square Pharma notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 82 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 236.90, losing 1.62 per cent.

The turnover of Monno Jute Stafflers was Tk 71 million. The company's share closed at Tk 1,225.80, losing 6.25 per cent.

Paramount Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 63 million. The company's share closed at Tk 27.60 each, gaining 4.55 per cent.

The turnover of Continental Insurance was Tk 62 million. The company's share price fell 1.20 per cent to close at Tk 24.60.

Summit Power featured a turnover of Tk 56 million. The company's share closed at Tk 38.80, advancing 2.11 per cent.

Eastern Insurance also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 56 million changing hands. The company's share rose 5.91 per cent to close at Tk 53.30 each.
