United Power leads turnover chart

Ten most traded companies accounted for 28 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday, with the United Power Generation and Distribution Company Ltd. securing the top spot on the turnover chart.

Brokers said investors continued to show their appetite for United Power shares ahead of the company's board meeting, scheduled to be held on August 01, which may declare dividend for the shareholders.

According to the DSE data, 534,978 shares of United Power were traded on Sunday, generating a turnover of Tk 214 million, which was 5.27 per cent of the total turnover of the securities -- Tk 4.06 billion -- on the DSE.

The power generation company's share closed at Tk 398.90, advancing 0.96 per cent over the previous day.

The company's nine months' consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 12.88 for July 2018-March 2019 as against Tk 7.01 (separate) for July 2017-March 2018.

The consolidated net asset value (NAV) per share was Tk 66.29 as on March 31, 2019 and Tk 34 (separate) as on June 30, 2018.

The United Power, listed on the DSE in April 2015, disbursed 90 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividends for the year ended on June 30, 2018.

The sponsor-directors own 90 per cent stake in the company, while institutions own 6.44 per cent, foreign investors 0.04 per cent and the general public 3.52 per cent as of June 30, 2019, the DSE data shows.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 190 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 5.38 per cent to close at Tk 56.80 each.

Fortune Shoes clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 166 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 40.80 each, advancing 2.0 per cent.

Monno Ceramic emerged fourth, with shares worth Tk 105 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 9.66 per cent to close at Tk 155.50 each.

SEML Lecture Equity Management Fund notched the fifth spot, with units worth Tk 82 million changing hands. The fund's unit closed at Tk 11.30 each, shedding 9.60 per cent.

The turnover of Singer Bangladesh was Tk 79 million. The company's share price advanced 2.12 per cent to close at Tk 207.50 each.

Beacon Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 72 million. The company's share closed at Tk 22.20 each, losing 1.77 per cent.

The turnover of Phoenix Finance First Mutual Fund was Tk 71 million. The company's share price fell 8.74 per cent to close at Tk 9.40 each.

JMI Syringes featured a turnover of also Tk 71 million. The company's share closed at Tk 452 each, advancing 3.01 per cent.

Prime Islami Life Insurance also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 67 million changing hands. The company's share price advanced 0.39 per cent to close at Tk 51 each.
