Top ten traded companies grab 35pc transaction

Top ten traded companies captured 35 per cent turnover of the major bourse on Wednesday while Khulna Power Company topping the chart.

Market insiders said the investors continued to show their buying appetite on Khulna Power's shares amid dividend expectation.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 4.66 million shares of KPCL were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 557 million, which was 9.88 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.

The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 5.63 billion which was Tk 4.88 billion on the previous day.

The KPCL also topped last month's turnover chart with shares worth Tk 12.73 billion changing hands during the month of September, the DSE data shows.

The company's share closed at Tk 120.40 on Wednesday, soaring 7.30 per cent over the previous day. In the last one month, its share price jumped 36 per cent.

The power generation company's share traded between Tk 53 and Tk 139 each in the last one year.

Khulna Power, which was listed on the DSE in 2010, disbursed 55 per cent cash dividend in 2017. In 2016, it paid 75 per cent cash dividend.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 1.21 for January-March 2018 as against Tk 1.40 for January-March 2017.

In nine months for EPS was Tk 3.93 for July 2017-March 2018 as against Tk 3.91 for July 2016-March 2017.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 3.61 billion, authorised capital is Tk 7.0 billion and the total number of securities is 361.28 million.

United Power followed next, with shares worth Tk 300 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 334.60 each, advancing 3.75 per cent over the previous day.

IFAD Autos clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 257 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 1.89 per cent to close at Tk 129.40 each.

Dragon Sweater emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 164 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 32.80, gaining 1.86 per cent.

Active Fine Chemicals notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 138 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 3.84 per cent to close at Tk 43.20 each.

The turnover of VFS Thread Dyeing was Tk 131 million. The company's share price soared 5.48 per cent to close at Tk 34.60 each.

Intech featured a turnover of Tk 118 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 60.10 each, advancing 0.38 per cent.

The turnover of Shasha Denims was Tk 108 million. The company's share price rose 6.39 per cent to close at Tk 71.50 each.

National Life Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 107 million. The company's share price fell 6.89 per cent to close at Tk 193 each.

Legacy Footwear, which returned to the trading floor after suspension, was also included in the top 10 turnover chart with shares of Tk 104 million changing hands.

The company's share price closed at Tk 259.30 each, shedding 1.33 per cent over the previous day.
