The ten most actively traded stocks grabbed 33 per cent of the transactions on the prime bourse last week, with the British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company (BATBC) remaining on the top of the chart for the second straight week.
Market analysts said BATBC became the most sought-after stock after it declared a hefty dividend on March 12.
The multinational company has recommended 500 per cent cash and 200 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.
Its board of directors has also decided to increase the authorised capital to Tk 5.40 billion from Tk 600 million by amending relevant clauses.
The week's total turnover of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 17.20 billion last week that ended on Thursday.
According to data available with the DSE, about 204,889 shares of BATBC were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 984 million, making up 5.72 per cent of the prime bourse's total turnover.
The company's share closed at Tk 4654.10 on Thursday, shedding 2.48 per cent over the previous week.
The multinational company has also reported earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 166.87, net asset value (NAV) per share of Tk 492.15 and net operating cash flow per share (NOCFPS) of Tk 150.13 for the year ended on December 31, 2018 as against Tk 130.50, Tk 385.21 and Tk 162.22 respectively for the same period of the previous year.
Brac Bank came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 942 million changing hands. Its share closed at Tk 81.70 on Thursday, losing 7.68 per cent over the previous week.
The United Power clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 748 million changing hands. The power generation company's share also fell 1.97 per cent to finish at Tk 397.40.
Dutch-Bangla Bank emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 556 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 205.90, losing 5.59 per cent week on week.
Square Pharmaceuticals notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 552 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 269.90, gaining 0.86 per cent.
The turnover of Monno Ceramic was Tk 488 million. The bank's share price plunged 10.40 per cent to close at Tk 317.10.
Marico Bangladesh featured a turnover of Tk 412 million. The company's share closed at Tk 1,655.10, soaring 8.42 per cent.
The turnover of Singer Bangladesh was Tk 384 million. Its share closed at Tk 268.90 each, losing 4.77 per cent.
Grameenphone (GP) featured a turnover of Tk 317 million. The company's share closed at Tk 397.40, gaining 2.63 per cent over the previous week.
Alif Industries also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 299 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 70.60 on Thursday, shedding 2.22 per cent over the previous week.
