Ten firms account for 29pc of weekly turnover on DSE

The ten most-traded companies accounted for 29 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week, with Beximco dominating the turnover chart for the fourth straight week.

Market insiders said Beximco -- the flagship company of Beximco Group -- continued to lead the turnover chart as investors were active in both buying and selling the company's shares.

According to available data with the DSE, some 29.47 million Beximco shares were traded during the week, generating a turnover of Tk 3.64 billion, which was 7.19 per cent of the week's total turnover.

The week's total turnover jumped to Tk 50.58 billion on the prime bourse as against Tk 31.69 billion in the previous week.

The company's share price skyrocketed to Tk 187.90 on November 11, 2021 after it started to decline and gradually fell to Tk 114.20 each on July 28, 2022.

However, Beximco's share closed at Tk 127.90 on Thursday, soaring 12 per cent over the previous week. Its shares hovered between Tk 13.40 and Tk 187.90 in the last two years.

Fortune Shoes came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 1.96 billion changing hands during the week. The company's share price dropped 0.75 per cent to close at Tk 79.50 on Thursday.

Sonali Paper & Board Mills clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 1.52 billion changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 651.50 on Thursday, rising 8.82 per cent over the previous week.

Malek Spinning Mills emerged as fourth, with shares worth Tk 1.48 billion changing hands. The company's share jumped 32.82 per cent to close at Tk 35.60 on Thursday.

Delta Life Insurance notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 1.33 billion changing hands. The company's share price soared 9.20 per cent to close at Tk 148.40 on Thursday.

Turnover of Intraco Refueling Station was Tk 1.16 billion. The company's share price rose 18.43 cent to close at Tk 34.70 on Thursday.

IPDC Finance featured a turnover of Tk 925 million. Its share closed at Tk 57.70, gaining 2.12 per cent over the previous week.

The turnover of Orion Infusion was Tk 863 million. The company's share price rose 26.36 per cent to close at Tk 132.30 on Thursday.

Matin Spinning Mills featured a turnover of Tk 840 million. The textile maker's share closed at Tk 82.20, gaining 4.45 per cent over the week before.
