Stocks open lower amid slow trading activities

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed downward trend in early hour of Sunday trading as many investors followed cautious stance ahead of divided declarations.

Following the last week’s positive movement, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed negative trend amid low trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell nearly 11 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse shed 1.58 points at 10:45 am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 23 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) lost 14 points at 11:00 am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 23.49 points or 0.39 per cent to reach at 6,026 points at 11:00 am.

The two other indices also saw negative trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 5.54 points or 0.25 per cent to reach at 2,225 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 3.44 points or 0.24 per cent to stand at 1,402 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 577 million when the report was filed at 11:00 am.

Of the issues traded till then, 62 advanced, 153 declined and 34 remained unchanged.

Fu-Wang Food Industries was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 48 million changing hands, closely followed by Unique Hotel & Resorts Tk 41 million, Anwar Galvanizing Tk 38 million, Legacy Footwear Tk 32 million and Eastern Cables Tk 26 million.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw negative trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI- falling 14 points to stand at 18,708, also at 11:00 am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX –also lost 9.0 points to stand at 11,288 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 23 gained, 32 declined and 16 issues remained unchanged with Tk 16 million in turnover.
