Stocks ended marginally higher on Sunday as some investors showed buying appetite on sector-wise shares based on earnings disclosure.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 29.18 points to settle at 4,712, after remaining flat in the previous day.
Market analyst said optimistic investors took position on sector specific stocks based on the latest quarter financial performance and year-end dividend declarations, taking the market in green zone.
Two other indices also ended marginally higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 10.60 points to finish at 1,638 and the DSE Shariah Index gained 7.69 points to close at 1,083.
Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 3.25 billion, which was 20 per cent lower than the previous day’s one-month highest turnover of Tk 4.05 billion.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 352 issues traded, 190 ended higher, 123 closed lower and 39 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
A total of 117,458 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 116.88 million securities.
The market capitalisation of the DSE also rose to Tk 3,570 on Sunday, from Tk 3,559 billion in the previous session.
National Tubes topped the turnover chart with 1.20 million shares worth Tk 191 million changing hands.
The other turnover leaders were Northern Jute Manufacturing Company, Sonar Bangla Insurance, Shuwrid Industries and Stylecraft.
Hakkani Pulp & Paper was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 26.66 per cent while First Finance was the worst loser, losing 7.69 per cent.
The port city’s bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange, also ended higher with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI—gaining 78 points to settle at 14,300 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX –advancing 44 points to finish at 8,690.
Here too, the gainers beat losers, as 164 issues closed higher, 63 ended lower and 24 remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.
The port city’s bourse traded 8.0 million shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 152 million in turnover.
