Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has said the stock market is not a place for rumours and those who think so are its enemies.
"Investors need to study to learn about the market, said the finance minister.
The finance minister came up with the remarks while inaugurating the 'Investors and Entrepreneurs Conference and Investment Education Fair, 2018' at a convention centre in Sylhet on Saturday.
"BSEC has organised the fair to create awareness and remove their misconception about the markets," he said.
"Present stock market is modern and internationally recognised one," the minister claimed.
Muhith also said the government and Bangladesh Securities Exchange Commission (BSEC) gained this position through hardworking.
"We have been able to create a foundation for the stock market over the last seven years and now it is the time to flourish the market," he said.
Muhith said once there were no rules and policies for the capital market and people invested in the markets on the basis of hearsay that led the market to crushing twice earlier.
People have misconception about the stock market and many of them invest in the stock markets without knowing anything which is not right, said Muhith.
Muhith said Bangladesh needs a huge investment and if people invest in the capital markets properly, they will be able to play direct role for the development of the country.
"There is a bright future for Bangladesh and the government will build a prosperous country with participation of all," he added.
Later, the finance minister went round different stalls at the fair, according to BSS.
BSEC chairman Dr M Khairul Hossain and BSEC commissioner Prof Md Helal Uddin Nizami spoke on the occasion.
After attending the fair, the finance minister attended an extended meeting of local Awami League marking upcoming Sylhet visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
