Square Pharma generates highest weekly turnover

Square Pharmaceuticals dominated the Dhaka bourse's transaction chart in the outgoing week while ten most-traded stocks accounted for one-fifth transactions.

Market analysts said investors showed their appetite on Square Pharma shares after the news that company obtained good manufacturing practices certificate by Congo which allowed the export of its product to African countries.

The Square Pharma received the certificate, joining a growing list of medicine exporters from Bangladesh looking to make inroads into 11 African countries.

According to the Dhaka Stock Exchange data, some 3.51m shares of Square Pharma were traded, generating a turnover of more than Tk 633m, which was 3.03 per cent of the week's total turnover of Tk 20.88 billion.

The company's share closed at Tk 179.80 on Thursday, the trading day of the week, losing 2.92 per cent over the week before.

The company disbursed 42 per cent cash and 7.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2019.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 8.44 billion and authorised capital is Tk 10 billion while total number of securities is 844.23 million.

The sponsor-directors own 34.57 per cent stake in the company, while the institutional investors own 10.30 per cent, foreign investors 19.48 per cent and the general public 35.65 per cent as on February 29, 2020, the DSE data showed.

Orion Pharma came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 464 million changing hands. The company's share rose 5.90 per cent to close at Tk 44.90 each on Thursday.

Orion Infusion clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 436 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 78.60, losing 2.72 per cent week-on-week.

LafargeHolcim emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 435 million changing hands. The company's share fell 11.11 per cent to close at Tk 37.60 each.

Grameenphone notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 434 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 248, shedding 5.99 per cent.

The turnover of Beacon Pharma was Tk 421 million. The company's share price advanced 3.01 per cent to close at Tk 65.10 each.

Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 389 million. The company's share closed at Tk 122.50 each, gaining 7.17 per cent.

The turnover of VFS Thread Dyeing was Tk 386 million. The company's share slumped 17.41 per cent to close at Tk 24.20 on Thursday.

Khulna Power featured a turnover of Tk 383 million. The company's share closed at Tk 47.30, losing 9.21 per cent.

Khulna Printing & Packaging also made its way to the week's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 314 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 2.56 per cent to close at Tk 19 each.
