Top 10 traded companies captured more than 27 per cent transaction of the Dhaka bourse on Monday with Saiham Textile dominating the chart.
The total turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 6.14 billion, which was 6.41 per cent higher than the previous session's Tk 5.77 billion.
The most active shares in terms of value included Saiham Textile, United Power, The Peninsula Chittagong, KDS Accessories, BBS Cables, Monno Ceramic, Simtex Industries, Legacy Footwear, Pacific Denims and Bashundhara paper Mills.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 11.18 million shares of Saiham Textile were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 328 million, which was 5.33 per cent of the premier bourse's total turnover.
The company's share price hovered between Tk 27.40 and Tk 30 each, before closing at Tk 29.10, soaring 6.60 per cent over the previous session.
Saiham Textile's share price is soaring without any price sensitive information (PSI) as its share price jumped 54 per cent or Tk 10.20 each in the last one month.
Following the abnormal price hike, the DSE served show-cause notice on the company. But, the company replied that there was no undisclosed price sensitive information.
The company's (un-audited) earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.36 for January-March, 2018 as against Tk 0.30 for January-March, 2017.
In nine months for July, 2017-March, 2018, its EPS was Tk 0.83 as against Tk 0.81 for July 2016-March 2017.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 905.63 billion, authorised capital is Tk 1.50 billion and the total number of securities is 90.56 million.
The sponsor-directors own 33.70 per cent stake in the company while institutional investors 31.46 per cent and the general public 34.84 per cent as on June 30, 2017, the DSE data shows.
United Power followed next with shares of Tk 234 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 319.70 each, gaining 3.66 per cent over the previous day.
The Peninsula Chittagong notched the third spot with shares of Tk 153 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 3.73 per cent to close at Tk 36.10 each.
KDS emerged as fourth with shares of Tk 149 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 109.60 each, losing 0.09 per cent.
The turnover of BBS Cables was Tk 148 million. The company's share price advanced 0.30 per cent to close at Tk 98.20 each.
Monno Ceramic featured a turnover of Tk 147 million. The company's share price rose 2.93 per cent to close at Tk 347.09 each.
The turnover of Simtex Industries was Tk 144 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 34.50 each, advancing 2.37 per cent.
Legacy Footwear featured a turnover of Tk 140 million. Its share price soared 9.96 per cent to close at Tk 29.10 each. It was also the day's top gainer.
The turnover of Pacific Denims was Tk 101 million. The denims maker's share price closed at Tk 22.80 each, advancing 0.44 per cent.
Bashundhara Paper was also included in the top 10 turnover chart with shares of Tk 90 million changing hands. The recently listed company's share closed at Tk 131.50 each, losing 1.65 per cent.
