The share prices of five large cap companies closed positively on Thursday following investors' increased participation.
On the day, the DSEX, broad index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), also posted a sharp rise riding on market supportive roles played by those companies.
The DSEX closed at 4149.82 points with a rise of 2.0 per cent or 81.62 points on Thursday.
The companies which played a pivotal role in breaking the losing streak by the broad index are: Square Pharmaceuticals, Renata, Grameenphone, BRAC Bank and British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company (BATBC).
Of them, two sponsor directors of Square Pharma disclosed that they will buy-back 0.6 million shares of the company within the next 30 days.
The share price of BRAC Bank closed at Tk 50.30 each on Thursday with a rise of 8.17 per cent or Tk 3.80 from the closing price of the previous week.
The company also secured the second position in the chart of top 10 gainers along with positing a turnover of Tk 369.38 million in five sessions of last week.
The share price of Renata advanced 6.18 per cent or Tk 63.50 to close at Tk 1090.30 each on Thursday.
The company became the fifth gainer in last week on the premier bourse DSE.
In five sessions, Renata posted a turnover of above Tk 62.70 million.
The share price of Square Pharmaceuticals rose 4.57 per cent or Tk 7.80 to close at Tk 178.40 each on Thursday. Out of fives sessions, the share price of the company rose for three sessions.
In last week, the share price of British American Tobacco Company (BATBC) declined 5.55 per cent or Tk 53.10 to close at Tk 902.90 each on Thursday.
Out of five sessions, the share price of the company rose 2.67 per cent or Tk 23.50 in last two sessions executed on the DSE.
The share price of another large cap company Grameenphone declined 3.42 per cent or Tk 8.60 to close at Tk 242.20 each on Thursday.
