Ten most traded companies accounted for one-fifth of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday, with the National Life Insurance Company making it to the top of the turnover chart.
According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 629,232 shares of National Life were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 151 million, which was 2.97 per cent of the day's total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 5.07 billion on Wednesday.
The life insurer's share closed at Tk 243.70 on the day, advancing 5.0 per cent over the previous session.
The company's share traded between Tk 134.60 and Tk 283.30 in the last one year.
The National Life Insurance, listed on the DSE in 1995, disbursed 20 per cent cash and 15 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on December 2017.
However, the company is yet to declare dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.08 billion, authorised capital is Tk 2.0 billion and the total number of securities is 108.52 million.
The sponsor-directors own 82.65 per cent stake in the company, while institutions 10.92 per cent and the general public 6.43 per cent as of May 31, 2019, the DSE data show.
Runner Automobiles came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 145 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 109.30 each, advancing 3.21 per cent over the previous day.
United Power clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 123 million changing hands. The power generation company's share price fell 0.52 per cent to close at Tk 378.20 each.
Singer Bangladesh emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 109 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 201.10, gaining 3.87 per cent.
Monno Ceramic notched the fifth spot, with shares worth more than Tk 103 million changing hands. The company's price slumped 3.41 per cent to close at Tk 192.10 each.
The turnover of National Polymer was Tk 97 million. The company's share closed at Tk 113.50 each, down 2.15 per cent over the previous day.
National Tubes featured a turnover of Tk 93 million. The company's share price gained 1.08 per cent to close at Tk 122.10 each.
The turnover of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company was Tk 81 million. The company's share closed at Tk 129, losing 3.94 per cent.
Square Pharmaceuticals featured a turnover of Tk 79 million. The company's share price advanced 0.42 per cent to close at Tk 260.20 each.
Esquire Knit Composite also made its way to the top 10 turnover chart, with shares of Tk 76 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 1.92 per cent to close at Tk 46 each.
