Markets mostly higher in early trading Wednesday

The prices of most of the stocks on bourses saw an upward trend in early hour of trading on Wednesday as investors were showing their buying appetite on sector-wise stocks.

Brokers said the investors remained optimistic following the news that the Chinese consortium will modernise the Dhaka Stock Exchange, bring in new products, and enhance its capability as it officially became the strategic partner of DSE on Tuesday.

Following the previous four days’ correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened on upward note amid rising trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, DSEX, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 19 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse gained 20 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, the DSEX advanced more than 31 points while the the CASPI of Chattogram bourse rose 36 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

The DSEX went up by 31.72 points or 0.57 per cent to reach at 5,584 points at 11:00am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also gained 7.92 points to reach at 1,958 points.

The DSE Shariah Index jumped 6.10 points to stand at 1,277 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.23 billion on DSE when the report was filed.

Khulna Power Company was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 215 million changing hands, followed by Nahee Aluminum Tk 76 million, National Housing Finance Tk 74 million, Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Tk 65 million and Omex Electrode Tk 63 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 193 advanced, 43 declined, and 31 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also saw positive trend till then with the CASPI gaining 36 points to stand at 17,106, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index (CSCX) also gained 22 points to stand at 10,360 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 53 gained, 18 declined, and 05 issues remained unchanged with Tk 33 million in turnover.
