LafargeHolcim generates highest weekly turnover

Ten most traded companies accounted for one-fifth transactions to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in the outgoing week that ended on Thursday.

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh dominated the weekly turnover chart.

Market analysts said investors showed their buying appetite on LafargeHolcim shares following the amalgamation news of its subsidiary.

The Supreme Court has approved the amalgamation of its subsidiary Holcim Cement (Bangladesh) with its parent company LafargeHolcim Bangladesh during the week.

According to the DSE data, some 15.85 million shares of LafargeHolcim were traded, generating a turnover of 557 million, which was 2.35 per cent of the week's total turnover of Tk 23.76 billion.

The multinational cement manufacturer's share closed at Tk 38.50, soaring 21.84 per cent over the previous week.

The LafargeHolcim, which was listed on the DSE in 2003, disbursed 10 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 11.61 billion and authorised capital is Tk 14 billion while total number of securities is 1.16 billion.

The sponsor-directors own 64.68 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 15.94 per cent, foreign investors 0.97 per cent and the general public 18.41 per cent as of October 31, 2019, the DSE data showed.

The Sonar Bangla Insurance came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 530 million changing hands. The company's share fell 4.37 per cent to close at Tk 48.20 each.

Square Pharmaceuticals clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 485 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 208.30, shedding 4.41 per cent over the week before.

Fortune Shoes emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 483 million changing hands. The company's share price plunged 12.42 per cent to close at Tk 26.80 each on Thursday.

National Tubes notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 463 million changing hands. The state-run company's share closed at Tk 138.30, losing 13.07 per cent.

The turnover of Beacon Pharma was Tk 451 million. The company's share rose 3.81 per cent to close at Tk 35.40 each.

LankaBangla Finance featured a turnover of Tk 423 million. The company's share closed at Tk 19.50 each, soaring 13.37 per cent over the previous week.

The turnover of Kattali Textile was Tk 411 million. The company's share jumped 14.29 per cent to close at Tk 13.60 each.

BBS Cables featured a turnover of more than Tk 355 million. The company's share closed at Tk 67.60 each, losing 3.70 per cent.

Grameenphone (GP) also made its way to the week's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 350 million changing hands. The largest market-cap company's share shed 3.43 per cent to close at Tk 318.20 each.
