LafargeHolcim dominates DSE turnover chart

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Limited dominated the Dhaka Stock Exchange's turnover chart last week that ended on Thursday.

Ten most traded companies accounted for nearly 30 per cent transactions on the prime bourse in the outgoing week.

Brokers said investors showed their interest on the multinational cement maker's shares after the amalgamation news of its subsidiary.

Recently, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh has approved the amalgamation of its subsidiary Holcim Cement (Bangladesh) with its parent company LafargeHolcim.

According to data available with the DSE, some 31.33 million shares of LafargeHolcim were traded, generating a turnover of 1.33 billion, which was 5.88 per cent of the week's total turnover of Tk 22.65 billion.

The multinational cement manufacturer's share closed at Tk 44.80, soaring 15.76 per cent over the week before.

The company's share traded between Tk 30.70 and Tk 46.90 in the last one year.

The company's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.33 for July-September, 2019 as against negative Tk 0.03 for July-September, 2018.

In nine months for January-September, 2019, its consolidated EPS was Tk 1.01 as against Tk 0.42 for January-September, 2018.

The LafargeHolcim, which was listed on the DSE in 2003, disbursed 10 per cent cash dividend for the year ended on December 31, 2018.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 11.61 billion and authorised capital is Tk 14 billion while total number of securities is 1.16 billion.

The sponsor-directors own 64.68 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 15.19 per cent, foreign investors 0.99 per cent and the general public 19.14 per cent as of December 31, 2019, the DSE data showed.

Square Pharmaceuticals came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 1.05 billion changing hands. The company' share price also jumped 11.49 per cent to close at Tk 198.90 on Thursday after the news that four directors of the company expressed their intention to buy 1,200,000 shares of the company at prevailing market price.
