The ten most traded companies grabbed 20 per cent of the transactions on the Dhaka bourse on Thursday, with JMI Syringes & Medical Devices leading the turnover chart.
Market insiders said the investors were active on JMI Syringes shares amid optimism, as NIPRO Corporation of Japan has recently shown interest to subscribe for 11,100,000 ordinary shares in the company.
The board of JMI Syringes has recommended the proposed subscription by NIPRO, subject to consent of the shareholders, securities regulator and all other relevant regulatory bodies.
The JMI Syringes has called an extra-ordinary general meeting (EGM) to take shareholders' consent on the NIPRO's proposal.
The issue price of shares to be subscribed by the Japanese company will also be 'fixed' by the shareholders at the EGM scheduled for February 16, according to a disclosure.
The share price of JMI Syringes soared 110 per cent or Tk 276 each within one month to reach Tk 425 on January 08.
However, its share price fell 0.43 per cent to close at Tk 388.60 on Thursday.
According to statistics available with the DSE, about 706,470 shares of JMI Syringes were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 269 million or 3.0 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 8.97 billion, down from Tk 10.25 billion the previous day.
BBS Cables grabbed the second position of the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 264 million changing hands.
Olympic Industries clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 188 million changing hands. Its share price closed at Tk 258.40.
Shepherd Industries emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 184 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 6.25 per cent to Tk 47.60.
Paramount Textile secured the fifth spot, generating a turnover of Tk 160 million.
The turnover of Active Fine Chemicals was Tk 159 million. The company's share price fell 1.0 per cent to close at Tk 29.80.
Shahjibazar Power featured a turnover of Tk 146 million. The power generation company's share price closed at Tk 107.40 each.
The turnover of Brac Bank was Tk 145 million. The company's share price advanced 1.52 per cent to close at Tk 79.80.
Nahee Aluminum featured a turnover of Tk 143 million.
Singer Bangladesh also made it to the top 10 turnover chart with shares of Tk 136 million changing hands.
