Stocks witnessed a marginal correction on Thursday as cautious investors booked quick-profit on sector-wise stocks.
Brokers said the some investors booked profit on large-cap sectors like banking and telecom, taking the market in the red territory after three days.
Following the previous day’s sharp rise, the market opened higher and the key index of the major bourse rose about 24 points within 20 minutes of trading. But rest of session went down steadily.
At the end of the session, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, settled at 5,418, shedding 4.38 points or 0.08 per cent over the previous day.
The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, also fell 1.10 points to finish at 1,899. However, the DSE Shariah Index advanced 2.95 points to close at 1,250.
Turnover, the most important indicator of the market, however, rose to Tk 7.60 billion, which was 35 per cent higher than the previous session’s Tk 5.63 billion.
A total number of 146,432 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 146.35 million securities.
The market capitalisation of the DSE remained almost same to Tk 3,895 billion on the day which was Tk 3,895 billion in the previous day.
The gainers took a modest lead over the losers as out of 339 issues traded, 153 advanced, 151 declined and 35 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.
Khulna Power Company topped the DSE turnover chart again with 7.10 million shares worth Tk 899 million changing hands, followed by Active Fine Chemicals, United Power, Singer Bangladesh and BBS Cables.
BD Finance was the best performer for the second day in a row, posting a gain of 9.69 per cent while SK Trims Industries was the worst loser, losing 4.24 per cent.
The port city bourse CSE ended marginally lower with its CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –losing 10 points to settle at 16,668 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX –shedding 7.0 points to finish at 10,090.
The losers beat gainers as 126 issues closed lower, 96 ended higher and 31 remained unchanged on the CSE.
The port city bourse traded 8.88 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 297 million in turnover.
