DSE, CSE rebound on sector-specific buying

Bourses back to green zone

Bourses returned to the green zone on Thursday although the turnover edged lower than the previous session as investors opted for buying riding on sector-specific issues.

The last trading session of the week closed with 46 points higher on the main bourse Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) while the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed a rise of 85 points in the key index.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, which replaced the DGEN nearly five years back, advanced 46.38 points or 0.74 per cent to settle at 6,282 points.

The DS30 index, comprising the blue-chips rose 9.34 points or 0.41 per cent to finish at 2,278 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 6.36 points or 0.46 per cent to finish at 1,375.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 7.37 billion, which was 8.83 billion on the previous day.

Of the 296 issues traded on DSE trading floor, 172 closed higher, 90 closed lower and 34 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse also closed higher with its Selective Categories Index - CSCX – advancing 84.76 points to close at 11,784.

Of the 210 issues traded, 119 closed higher, 65 closed lower and 26 issues stayed unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city bourse traded a total of 20.02 million shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 612 million in turnover.
