Stocks open higher riding on GP

Stocks witnessed upward trend in early hour of trading on Thursday riding on Grameenphone shares.

The government and top mobile phone operators have reached a consensus over settling the long disputed audit claims amicably which made investors optimistic, brokers said.

The GP share price rose 8.72 per cent to reach at Tk 355.30 each at 11:00am on the prime bourse.

Following the previous day’s major fall, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw positive trend, but trading activities remains low.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 35 points while the CSE All Share Price Index of port city’s bourse gained 50 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX gained more than 34 points while the CSE All Share Price Index of port city’s bourse advanced 70 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 34.30 points or 0.69 per cent to stand at 4,922 points at 11:00am.

Two other indices also saw positive trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips rose 19.41 points to 1755 points and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 11 points to stand at 1,141 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 560 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 147 advanced, 67 declined and 59 remained unchanged.

Monno Jute Stafflers was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 91 million changing hands, followed by National Tubes, GP, National Life Insurance and Square Pharma.

The port city’s bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE), also saw upward trend till then with CSE All Share Price Index- CASPI-advancing 70 points to stand at 14,918 points, also at 11:00am.

The Selective Category Index – CSCX – also rose 43 points to stand at 9,057 points till then.

Of the issues traded till then, 29 advanced, 13 declined 04 remained unchanged with Tk 9.0 million in turnover.
