DSE, CSE open higher after Eid vacation

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed upward trend in early hour of trading Monday, after three-day Eid holidays, as investors are showing their buying appetite on sector-wise issues.

Trading on the bourses remained closed from September 1 to September 3 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, including weekly holidays.

After crossing the 6,000-mark of the prime index of the major bourse before Eid vacation, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) showed upward trend.

The presence of investors was thin in the brokerage houses as many investors are yet to return in Dhaka. However, many of them executed trade through phone.  

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced more than 8.0 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 8.65 points at 10:15am.

After 30 minutes of trading, DSEX advanced nearly 15 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse gained 25 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 15 points or 0.25 per cent to stand at 6,021 points at 11:00am.

The two other indices also saw positive trend till then. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips advanced 6.61 points or 0.31 per cent to 2,145 points.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 4.66 points or 0.35 per cent to stand at 1,327 points till then.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 916 million when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 131 advanced, 53 declined and 46 remained unchanged.

Fortune Shoes was the most traded stocks till then with shares worth Tk 176 million changing hands, followed by LankaBangla Finance Tk 88 million, BBS Cables Tk 44 million, Fu-Wang Ceramic Tk 42 million and Monno Ceramic Tk 36 million.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw positive trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX –advancing 25 points to stand at 11,267 points, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 49 gained, 12 declined and 12 issues remained unchanged with BDT 34 million in turnover.
