Stocks end week on high note

Stocks finished the week’s last session on a positive note Thursday as optimistic investors went on late hours buying spree on sector-wise issues.

Market insiders said the bourse ended higher after previous day’s flat note as investors were active on sector-wise issues amid ongoing dividend declaration session.

Following the previous day’s flat ending, the market saw some volatility in the first hour, but rest of the session, it went up steadily, and finally, key index of the country’s prime bourse gained more than 48 points while the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) of port city’s bourse advanced 180 at closing.

DSEX, the core index of the DSE, settled the week at 5,841, advancing 48.14 points or 0.83 per cent over the previous session.

The two other indices also closed higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, advanced 27.29 points or 1.25 per cent to finish at 2,194.

The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) gained 8.08 points or 0.60 per cent to close at 1,356.

The market activities also increased and the total turnover on the DSE amounting to Tk 5.72 billion, which was 4.76 per cent higher than the previous day’s Tk 5.46 billion.

The gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 335 issues traded, 203 closed higher, 87 ended lower and 45 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Beximco topped the day’s turnover chart with 12.63 million shares worth Tk 350 changing hands, followed by BRAC Bank, Unique Hotel & Resorts, Aamra Networks and Beximco Pharmaceuticals.

Beximco was also the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 8.30 per cent while Shympur Sugar Mills was the day’s worst loser, shedding 4.32 per cent.

The port city bourse also ended higher with the CSE All Share Price Index–CASPI–gaining 180 points to settle at 18,020 and selective Categories Index—CSCX–gaining 107 points to finish at 10,892 points.

Here too, the gainers beat the losers as 150 issues closed higher, 53 loser and 29 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 10.47 million shares and mutual fund units worth more than Tk 391 million in turnover.
