DSE, CSE down in early trading Thursday

Stocks witnessed downward trend in early trading on Thursday as cautious investors continued on selling mood on sector-wise issues.

Following the previous day’s decline, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened lower amid low trading activities.

Within first 15 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell more than 23 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 31 points at 10:45am.

After 30 minutes of trading, it slowed down somewhat and DSEX lost 8.56 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse dropped 18 points at 11:00am when the report was filed.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went down by 8.56 points or 0.14 per cent to stand at 6,100 points at 11:00am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips also fell 2.28 points or 0.10 per cent to 2,206.

However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 1.0 points or 0.07 per cent to stand at 1,341.

Turnover, the important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 1.28 billion when the report was filed.

Of the issues traded till then, 116 advanced, 112 declined and 43 remained unchanged.

Brac Bank dominated the turnover chart till then with shares of Tk 146 million changing hands, followed by IFAD Autos Tk 60 million, City Bank Tk 54 million, Exim Bank Tk 53 million and Uttara Bank Tk 49 million.

The port city bourse – the Chittagong Stock Exchange – (CSE) also saw downward trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX – losing 18 points to stand at 11,476 points, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 29 gained, 34 declined and 14 issues remained unchanged with Tk 23 million in turnover.
