Dhaka stocks stay positive on Sunday amid choppy trading

Dhaka stocks inched higher on Sunday amid volatile trading as investors were active both sides of trading fence.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), settled at 5,172, gaining 3.12 points or 0.06 per cent, after gaining 30 points in the previous session.

Market analysts said some investors were active on sector specific shares while some were busy with rebalancing their portfolio based on earnings declarations, taking the market in almost flat zone.

The DSES (Shariah) index also gained 1.75 points to settle at 1,193. But the DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 1.71 points to finish at 1,836.

Turnover, another important indicator of the market, stood at Tk 4.63 billion, which was 3.74 per cent lower than the previous day’s turnover of Tk 4.81 billion.

A total number of 133,098 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with trading volume of 135.73 million shares and mutual fund units.

The market-cap of the DSE rose slightly to Tk 3,866 billion on Sunday, from Tk 3,861 billion in the previous session.

The losers took a modest lead over the gainers as out of 352 issues traded, 167 closed lower, 152 higher and 33 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Monno Ceramic topped the turnover chart with 1.18 million shares worth Tk 255 million changing hands.

The other turnover leaders were United Power, Fortune Shoes, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and Genex Infosys.

Al-Haj Textile was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.96 per cent while SEML Lecture Equity Management Fund was the day’s worst loser, slumping by 10 per cent.

The port city bourse, the Chittagong Stock Exchange, however, finished slightly lower with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI – losing 5.29 points to settle at 15,793 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX –shedding 4.42 points to finish at 9,599.

The gainers beat the losers as 126 issues ended higher, 112 closed lower and 21 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse traded 7.49 million shares and mutual fund units worth nearly Tk 171 million in turnover.
