Capital market growth needs more foreign investments: BSEC

Sustainable development of the capital market is possible if risks are minimized through investment literacy and foreign investors are attracted, said the securities regulator.

"Foreign investments will have to be enhanced in the market attracting foreign portfolio investors. Investors will also have to be cautious in making investments in the capital market," said Chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Prof. Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam on Saturday at Investment Education Conference 2022 in Noakhali.

The BSEC and Bangladesh Academy for Securities Markets organised the conference.

Mr Islam laid importance on upholding the image of the country in order to take it forward.

Speaking as the chief guest, former chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Dr. AK Azad Chowdhury said Bangladesh had scored better compared to many other countries amid the global economic crisis.

BSEC Commissioner Dr. Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed said the securities regulator would hold awareness programmes for investors in every district.

"Entrepreneurs should collect capital from the market. The capital market is the only place for long-term financing," he said.

Director General of the Bangladesh Academy for Securities Markets Dr. Toufic Ahmad Choudhury, BSEC Executive Director Mohammad Saifur Rahman, DSE Director Md. Shakil Rizvi also attended the conference.
