Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Monday formed a high-powered body to look into the reasons that caused technical breakdown on the website of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in last week.
The committee led by Prof. Dr. Md. Mustafizur Rahman, chairman of computer science and engineering department of Dhaka University (DU), will submit its report within seven working days.
The other members of the committee are DU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Hossain Khan, also the director of ICT cell, Dr. Md. Shariful Islam, a Professor of ICT department, Rajib Ahmed, a BSEC director, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, a BSEC deputy director, and Md. Shahidul Islam, a BSEC assistant director.
The technical glitch hampered investors' access to the DSE's website on Wednesday after introduction of the update version of the website on Tuesday's afternoon.
Investors' sufferings also continued on Thursday although the premier bourse informed that due to maintenance and up-gradation of the website of DSE, the view of the website was temporarily interrupted.
"The committee will submit its report indentifying the reasons that caused technical glitch on the website of the prime bourse," said Mohammad Rezaul Karim, spokesperson of the securities regulator.
Apart from identifying responsible persons, the inquiry committee will also assess the consequences of the technical failure.
"Besides, the committee will make recommendation on how to avert such kind of technical glitch in future," said the terms of reference of the inquiry committee.
Meanwhile, the securities regulator issued a show cause notice on the DSE asking it to explain the reasons responsible for investors' sufferings.
The DSE has already received a reply from their chief technology officer (CTO) regarding the disruption on the website.
