Bata Shoe Company Limited and Marico Bangladesh Limited have contributed Tk 17.62 million to the Bangladesh Workers' Welfare Foundation.
Bata Shoe Company Bangladesh Limited Managing Director Chitpan Kanhasiri handed over cheque worth Tk 7.62 million to this effect to State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque at the latter’s office at Secretariat in the city on Sunday.
Marico Bangladesh Limited Chief Financial Officer Elias Ahmed in a separate meeting with the minister also handed over a cheque in this regard.
The company contributed Tk 10.01 million to the fund.
Under the amended labour law, profit-earning companies have to contribute five per cent of their net profits to their participatory welfare funds as well as the government-formed workers’ welfare fund. The ratio of the contribution is 80:10:10, respectively.
Acting Labour Secretary Afroza Khan, among others, was present at both the cheque hand over events.
