Banking sector dominates transaction chart

Ten cos grab 32pc turnover on DSE

The banking sector continued to dominate the transaction chart of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), accounting for 39 per cent of the total turnover on Thursday.

Four banks made their way to the top 10 turnover chart, with City Bank leading the chart for the second day in a row.

Brokers said the investors chased the banking sector issues, as more than 63 per cent of listed banks showed positive earnings in the third quarter (July-September period).

Meanwhile, top 10 traded companies, including four banks, grabbed more than 32 per cent of turnover on the Dhaka bourse.

The total turnover on the premier bourse reached Tk 8.70 billion, up 14 per cent from the previous day's Tk 7.65 billion.

The most active shares in terms of value included City Bank, Dhaka Bank, LankaBangla Finance, Brac Bank, Keya Cosmetics, Square Pharmaceuticals, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, IFAD Autos, Exim Bank and IDLC Finance.

According to statistics available with the DSE, about 10.35 million shares of City Bank were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 553 million, or 6.35 per cent of the total transactions.

The company's share price hovered between Tk 52.40 and Tk 54.40, before closing at Tk 53.90, advancing 2.28 per cent over the previous session.

Dhaka Bank came in next, with shares of Tk 395 million changing hands, contributing 4.54 per cent to the total turnover. The bank's share price closed 3.47 per cent higher at Tk 23.80.

LankaBangla notched the third spot, with shares of Tk 266 million changing hands, making up 3.05 per cent of the total turnover. Its share price ended 0.63 per cent higher at Tk 64.30.

Brac Bank emerged the fourth with shares of Tk 257 million changing hands, grabbing 2.95 per cent of the total turnover. The bank's share price settled 1.23 per cent higher at Tk 107.

Keya Cosmetics featured a turnover of Tk 247 million, or 2.84 per cent of the total turnover. Its share price closed 2.01 per cent higher at Tk 15.20.

The turnover of Square Pharma was Tk 241 million, or 2.76 per cent of the total transaction. Its share price ended 6.12 per cent down at Tk 278.90.

Beximco Pharma featured a turnover of Tk 211 million, or 2.42 per cent of the total turnover. Its share price advanced 4.28 per cent to close at Tk 109.60.

The turnover of IFAD was Tk 208 million, accounting for 2.38 per cent of the total turnover. Its share price closed at Tk 140.70, gaining 1.95 per cent.

Exim Bank featured a turnover of Tk 196 million, or 2.25 per cent of the total transaction. The bank's share price inched up 0.55 per cent to close at Tk 18.30.

IDLC also made its way to the top ten turnover chart, with shares of Tk 188 million changing hands. Its share price closed 2.23 per cent higher at Tk 91.50.
