Top ten traded companies captured nearly 42 per cent turnover of the major bourse on Thursday while Active Fine Chemicals dominated the chart.
Market insiders said investors were active on the Active Fine's shares amid higher dividend expectation, taking the company to the number one position of the turnover list.
According to statistics available from the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), about 18.27 million shares of Active Fine were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 884 million, which was 8.30 per cent of the DSE's total turnover.
The share price of Active Fine Chemicals Limited soared 27 per cent in the last one month without having any undisclosed price sensitive information (PSI).
Following the unusual price hike and increase in volume of shares, the DSE served show-cause notice on the company.
The company informed the DSE on Monday last that there was no specific cause for recent unusual price hike of the company's shares.
However, the company's share price fell 1.69 per cent to close at Tk 46.40 each on Thursday.
The company's earnings per share (EPS) stood at Tk 0.67 for January-March 2018 as against Tk 0.71 for January-March 2017.
In nine months for July 2017-March 2018, the EPS was Tk 2.01 as against Tk 2.04 for July 2016-March 2017.
The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.99 billion and authorised capital is Tk 3.0 billion while the total number of securities is 199.94 million.
The Active Fine Chemicals, which was listed on the DSE in 2010, disbursed 25 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2017.
IFAD Autos followed next, with shares worth Tk 800 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 135.10 each, advancing 5.71 per cent over the previous day.
Khulna Power clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 646 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 3.12 per cent to close at Tk 122.10 each.
BBS Cables emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 355 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 133.30, losing 2.34 per cent.
Singer BD notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 353 million changing hands. The company's share price soared 4.55 per cent to close at Tk 222.90 each.
The turnover of Shasha Denims was Tk 330 million. The company's share price advanced 1.70 per cent to close at Tk 71.80 each.
Aman Feed featured a turnover of Tk 278 million. The company's share price closed at Tk 74.90 each, soaring 6.54 per cent.
The turnover of Fortune Shoes was Tk 268 million. The company's share price rose 5.56 per cent to close at Tk 38 each.
Paramount Textile featured a turnover of Tk 262 million. The company's share price jumped 5.39 per cent to close at Tk 68.40 each.
United Power was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of Tk 247 million changing hands. The company's share price fell 1.67 per cent to close at Tk 306 each.
