In a major move, MA Awal has been appointed as the chairman of listed company AB Bank Limited following the sudden departure of earlier chairman M Wahidul Haque.
Feroz Ahmed was appointed vice chairman of the board of directors. Both were previously on the board.
The bank’s annual general meeting at Dhaka’s Le Meridien hotel on Thursday accepted the resignation of three members of the board - M Wahidul Haque, Salim Ahmed and Faheemul Huq, who had been the chairman, vice chairman and director of the bank respectively.
The chairman and the vice chairman were appointed at a board meeting following the general meeting. Three new directors were added to the board – Mostaque Ahmad Chowdhury, Sajir Ahmed and Shirin Sheikh Moinuddin.
BNP-era foreign minister and former AB Bank Chairman M Morshed Khan, his son Faisal Morshed Khan and other shareholders attended the annual general meeting.
Morshed Khan told bdnews24 that the new chairman, the vice chairman and other directors were appointed at the board meeting.
New director Nazir Ahmed is the son of departing Vice Chairman Salim Ahmed. Sheikh Moinuddin and Moshtaque Ahmed will represent M Morshed Khan.
Earlier on Thursday, AB Bank Chairman M Wahidul Haque, Vice Chairman Salim Ahmed and Director Faheemul Huq resigned from their respective positions in the bank. Their resignation was accepted at the AGM.
