Bangladesh all rounder Shakib Al Hasan has received a place on the Melbourne Cricket Club’s prestigious World Cricket Committee.
Established in 2006, the committee is composed of current and former cricketers and umpires and meets biannually.
The committee discusses various issues related to the sport and recommends changes to cricketing rules and regulations to the ICC, reports bdnews24.
These recommendations are accepted following ICC approval. Several recent changes, including regulations regarding the size of the bat, were initially recommended by the committee.
The MCC informed Shakib of his official appointment to the World Cricket Committee through a letter dated Sept 18. The new committee assumed its duties on Oct 1. The committee is chaired by former England captain Mike Gatting. The departing chairman was another English cricket captain, Mike Brearley.
Shakib, greatly enthused by the honour, shared his appointment letter on his Facebook account.
"I truly feel humbled that you have chosen me to be a member of the Prestigious MCC World Cricket Committee. Thank you for bestowing me with such an honour," he wrote.
The first meeting of the committee will take place in Sydney on Jan 9 and Jan 10, 2018. The next meeting will be held at Lords stadium on Aug 6 and Aug 7, 2018.
