Amidst all the drama and excitement of Premier League and La Liga, the top 4 race in Serie A is also picking up the pace.
If we look at the points table, Serie A is having the most competitive title race among the top 5 leagues in Europe. Currently, AC Milan is topping the table with 67 points from 31 matches.
2nd place Napoli have one less point from the same number of games. Inter and Juventus occupy the 3rd and 4th places respectively. However, Inter is comfortably holding the 3rd position, 4 points ahead of Juventus with a game in hand.
Other than the Champions League places, Roma is also charging in towards the top of the table with the tactical maestro Jose Mourinho. They are on a 10 game unbeaten run.
Juventus had a long spell of dominance in the Serie A winning nine consecutive titles from the 2011-12 season up to the 2019-20 season. But they were dethroned last season by Inter Milan with an inspired performance. Under Inzaghi, Inter was resurgent and went on to win the League title.
AC Milan have also found their feet and the Serie A has come back to the previous glory days when the two Milan clubs would battle it out at the top of the table.
There are breakout stars whom we should look into as well. Dusan Vlahovic has proven to be the find of the season. After a great first half of the season with Fiorentina, Vlahovic earned himself a move to Turin with Juventus paying around 70 million Euros for his service.
Giovanni Simeone and Tammy Abraham are also amongst the top scorers' charts along with the consistent Ciro Immobile. Other star players like Lautaro Martinez, Nicolo Barella, and Rafael Leao are breaking into the scene with consistent performances.
In the title race, it's anyone's game between AC Milan, Napoli, and Inter Milan. Inter defeated Juventus 1-0 at Turin in their last game proving they are capable of taking down top sides.
At the business end of the season, no team would allow points to be dropped so easily. There is almost no margin for error as the best team would be the one that holds its nerve till the end.
Following the next few fixtures for all the sides, we find that AC Milan has a comparatively generous round of fixtures whereas both Inter Milan and Napoli will go up against AS Roma within their next 3 fixtures, a Roma side who has not tasted defeat in a long time.
Needless to say that Serie A is going to have a much more stern competition in the top half of the table than most other top leagues in Europe.
