Hosts South Africa recorded yet another crushing victory against a hapless Bangladesh side in third ODI on Sunday to complete a 3-0 whitewash in the series.
Tigers were ultimately tamed by a spirited home side who outplayed them to hand a 200-run drubbing in the last match at Buffalo Park in East London.
Paterson was the wrecker-in-chief for the hosts with his 3/44 to skittle out the visitors for a paltry total of 169.
World’s number one all-rounder Shakib al Hasan saved the visiting side from further blushes scoring the team highest score of 63, followed by rookie lower-order batsman Sabbir Rahman’s steady 39.
The hapless visitors virtually crumbled throughout their innings right from the beginning with opener Imrul Kayes getting out on just one run on the board. Soumya, Liton, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah soon followed him in the dressing room. Shakib and Sabbir tried to restore some pride with a 67-run partnership. Any chance of a fightback vanquished soon after Shakib was dismissed for 63 leaving the team total stuttering at 128/6. Rest of the innings was more of a formality for the hosts who were determined to record a clean sweep in the series that promised a lot for the visitors also.
Earlier, South Africa captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first. He hammered a captain’s knock of 91 runs off just 67 balls smashing the wayward Bangladesh bowlers all over the park to help take his team total to 369/6.
He was ably assisted by man-of-the-series Quinton de Kock with a fluent knock of 73, followed by Markram’s 66. Mehedi Hasan Miraz was the pick of Bangladesh bowlers for his 2/59.
Injured Faf du Plessis was adjudged man-of-the-match.
Mehedi and Soumya came in for Bangladesh, replacing injured Tamim Iqbal and Nasir Hossain in the match while Bavuma, Markram and Mulder were in for the hosts, replacing Amla, Duminy and Pretorius.
Bangladesh earlier conceded a 104-run defeat in the 2nd match at Boland Park in Paarl following a humiliating 10-wicket loss in the 1st ODI at Diamond Oval in Kimberley.
