A tremendous bowling effort by left-arm pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana guided Fortune Barishal to a win against Khulna Tigers on Saturday in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in Chattogram.
It was Barishal’s second win in the event in four matches. Before this match, they lost two consecutive matches against Minister Group Dhaka and Comilla Victorians, reports UNB.
Khulna Tigers won the toss and bowled first to restrict Barishal to 141 for nine in 20 overs with Chris Gayle scoring the highest 45 off 34 balls with six fours and two sixes. Towhid Hridoy was the second-highest scorer for them with 23 off 21 deliveries.
For Khulna, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Thisara Perera and Farhad Reza scalped two wickets each.
In reply, Khulna lost two wickets in just five runs. Soumya Sarkar failed to add anything on the board while the other opener Andre Fletcher scored 4. Both of their openers were dismissed by Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Jake Lintott also bagged two wickets for them.
Khulna captain Mushfiqur Rahim scored 40 but his effort went in vain as the other batters failed to partner him well with the bat.
Mehedi Hasan came to bowl as the sixth bowler and bagged four wickets conceding 17 runs in three overs, which helped him to win the player of the match award.
It was the second defeat of Khulna in four matches they have played so far. These two teams will take on each other in their next match as well on January 31 at the same venue.
