New season of Fantasy Premier League returns, Jesus becomes the most picked player

Fantasy Premier League is one of the most popular fantasy games on the internet. It is a game relating to the English Premier League. Every season millions of players register and play the game.

This season is no different as well with 7.8 million players being registered up until now from all over the world.

For starters, Fantasy Premier League is the benchmark for assessing the analysing ability of an individual. One gets a 100 million pounds budget and has to pick 15 players. The price of the players is set earlier.

A participant must select 15 players and they will score points based on their real-life performance on the field. If the selected player scores goals, provides assists and keeps clean sheets, points will be scored for the selector. Again if the player receives a card, a penalty or in the case of defenders and goalkeepers, if they concede goals, points will be deducted.

General scoring rules

1. Each player gets 2 points for starting a match and playing for 60 minutes.
2. Coming on as a substitute gives 1.
3. Goal scored by goalkeeper or defender: 6
4. Goal scored by midfielder: 5
5. Goal scored by a forward: 4
6. Each assist: 3
7. Clean sheet by a goalkeeper or defender: 4
8. Clean sheet by a midfielder: 1
9. Every 3 shots saved by the keeper: 1
10. Each penalty save by keeper: 5
11. Each penalty miss: -2
12. Bonus for the man of the match: 1-3
13. Every 2 goals conceded by defenders or goalkeepers: -1
14. Each yellow card: -1
15. Each red card: -3
16. Each own goal: -2

These are the points scoring system in the FPL. Many people are more concerned about building a nice balanced team keeping actual match situations in mind.

But one logical thought should be that fullbacks are more likely to score goals and provide assists. So a back 4 might be Joao Cancelo, Alexandre Arnold, Reece James and Andy Robertson. But the budget should be also kept in mind.

With the same logic, a defensive midfielder who is less likely to score goals and provide assists is not going to be much productive. Explosive wingers might serve the purpose better. It is a general tendency for participants to spend big on forwards and spend less on defenders. There is a simple logic behind that as well. The Premier League is competitive and no matter how good a defence lineup there is, the team is likely to miss out on the clean sheet.

Gabriel Jesus became the most picked player in a single game week in history this season. 77 per cent of the total participants picked Jesus in their forward line. His good run of form at the end of last season and in the pre-season was instrumental in this.

The Fantasy Premier League is popular among Bangladesh football fans. There are communities too, built based on FPL. As the season starts, it's time to make your team and beat the opponents by wit and tactics.
