Bangladesh's wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim is confident that he will be able to play in the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe despite the rib injury, reports Cricbuzz.
He is currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme for a rib fracture that he sustained during the Asia Cup and is expected to start batting from October 10.
The participation of Mushfiqur has remained a major concern for Bangladesh with the home series against Zimbabwe set to begin on October 21.
Zimbabwe will play three ODIs followed by two Test matches and the hosts are desperate to have the services of Mushfiqur, considering some of their leading cricketers are expected to be sidelined due to their respective injuries.
All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out for three months due to his finger injury that later got infected while Tamim Iqbal is unlikely to be available before the second Test against Zimbabwe after fracturing his left wrist during the Asia Cup.
Mushfiqur was seen running alone in the heat, followed by a gym session on Monday. "I am feeling much better now as the pain has been reducing gradually while I am increasing my workload accordingly. Right now, I am under a rehabilitation program and hopefully will start my batting within a day or two. As there is no need of a surgery, hopefully, I will recover in time and will be available for the upcoming series," Mushfiqur said.
According to a certain section of the think-tank, it would be wise for Mushfiqur to skip the series against Zimbabwe in order to get proper rest so that he can be available in the upcoming days that is congested with a hectic international schedule lined up.
Mushfiqur said the only concern for him at present remains in determining whether he will be able to keep wickets or not.
BCB physician Debashish Chowdhury also looked optimistic about Mushfiqur as his recovery speed is quite satisfactory.
