India beat Bangladesh by 4 wickets to win the Nidahas Trophy at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.
Chasing a score of 167, India reached home in the last ball.
India started their chase well, but the Tigers kept on taking wickets at regular intervals.
At one point it seemed that India was cruising. But a crucial 18th over by cutter-master Mustafizur Rahman somewhat swayed the match towards Bangladesh’s way.
Mustafiz bowled four dot balls and took the wicket of Manish Pandey in that over.
Rubel Hossain’s penultimate over proved costly as Dinesh Karthik hit him all over the park leaving India 12 runs shy and one more over to go.
Soumya Sarker bowled a very economical last over and took the prized scalp of Shankar.
However, the young part-time bowler lost his cool and delivered a wayward last ball which Karthik brilliantly hit for a six to take India home.
Rohit Sharma top scored for India with 56 while Pandey and Karthik scored 24 and 29 runs respectively.
Rubel Hossain took 2 wickets for 35 runs while Shakib, Nazmul, Mustafiz and Soumya took one wicket each.
Earlier, after winning the toss and being put into bat first, Bangladesh put up a fighting total of 166 for eight, riding on Sabbir Rahman’s valiant innings.
Sabbir top scored with 77 runs off 50 balls.
