Chittagong Vikings defeated Sylhet Sixers by 40 runs on Friday in their group match of the BPL T20 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, Chittagong posted a mammoth total of 211 for 5 in the stipulated 20 overs.
Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe scored the highest runs for the Vikings with 95 (45 balls 4sX9,6sX6), while Kiwi batsman Luke Ronchi scored 41 (25 balls, 4sX6, 6sX1).
Van Zyl of South Africa also chipped in with 40 runs (26 balls, 4sX4, 6sX2) that helped the Vikings post the huge score.
Kamrul Islam Rabbi took 2 wickets for 35 runs while Nasir Hossain, Tim Bresnan and Abul Hasan took 1 wicket each for 34, 38 and 42 runs respectively.
In reply, Sixers got off to a flying start scoring 43 runs off just 4 overs.
However, the loss of Andre Fletcher in the 14th over of their innings with 123 runs on the board dented the run chase.
The middle order batsmen of the Sixers didn’t do their side any good as wickets started to fall like nine pins after the departure of Fletcher.
Eventually, Sylhet finished their innings at 171/8 in 20 overs, falling 40 runs short.
Andre Fletches scored the highest runs for Sylhet with 71 runs (45 balls, 4sX8, 6sX4) while Babar Azam and Nurul Hasan chipped in with 41 and 28 runs respectively.
Taskin Ahmed took 3 wickets for 31 runs while Van Zyl and Soumya Sarkar took 2 wickets each for 14 and 17 runs respectively.
Sikandar Raza of Vikings was adjudged Man of the Match for his match winning innings.
