Bangladesh national team cricketer Saif Hassan has tested positive for Covid-19, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed it on Tuesday.
His test samples were collected on Monday along with 24 individuals, including 17 players in Dhaka.
The test reports confirmed that Saif and BCB’s head of Physical Performance Nicholas Lee has also been tested positive, reports UNB.
As they had no visible symptoms leading up to the sample collection, the BCB’s medical team has advised Saif and Lee to go into self-isolation immediately in accordance with the Covid-19 management protocol until they undergo another test.
BCB informed that Nicholas Lee had earlier been tested positive on August 14 in Dubai, UAE. After 10-day isolation, he had been tested negative on August 23. After arriving in Dhaka, Lee completed his 14-day isolation as well.
BCB’s Sports physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said, “Our consultant for COVID-19 is reviewing Lee’s case to determine whether it is a new or previous infection before advising on the management plan.”
The national team is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka later this month for a three-match Test series which will take place on October 24.
Before that, BCB is trying to make sure everyone of the national team is free from Covid-19 infection.
Before flying for Sri Lanka, cricketers and support staff will undergo a total of four Covid-19 tests, Debashish Chowdhury confirmed earlier.
The national team members were busy with individual training programmes for a month before BCB halted it after a member of support staff was detected positive for Covid-19.
However, the individual training programme is set to continue from September 9.
